How Seasoned Expat articles are made, what they're built from, how they're checked, and what we do when they're wrong.
Articles are written with AI
Seasoned Expat articles are drafted by AI: large language models running in a system we built for this publication. We say so here, on our methodology page and in the footer of every page, because you should know how what you're reading was made.
Every article starts from a primary document
From September 25, 2026, each new article is built on a primary document (the record itself, not someone else's write-up of it) and links to it. For Seasoned Expat that means:
- The U.S. Federal Register, USCIS and the U.S. State Department
- UK Visas and Immigration (GOV.UK)
- Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
- Ireland's Immigration Service Delivery
- Other governments' official immigration, residency and tax publications
No primary document, no article. We may cite news reports for context, and name the outlet when we do, but a news report is never the basis for a story.
Automated checks
Before a draft can publish, automated checks hold it if it doesn't link its source document, if it repeats a story we've already covered, or if it describes a future event as though it has already happened. These checks are software: they catch some errors and miss others, which is why we correct in public.
What the byline means
Articles carry the name of Seasoned Expat’s editor, Matt. The editor decides what Seasoned Expat covers, sets the standards on this page and is accountable for corrections. The byline doesn’t mean the editor wrote an article or read it before it was published: articles publish once they pass the automated checks, without an individual human review.
How much we publish
At most two new articles a day on Seasoned Expat, and none on days without a document worth covering. We'd rather publish less than publish filler.
Dates and updates
Each article shows the date it was first published. If we substantially revise an article later, it also shows an "Updated" date. Our archive includes articles written under an earlier process that drafted from news reports; we're reviewing them and correcting, consolidating or removing the ones that don't meet this policy.

Independence and conflicts of interest
- No company pays to be covered, and nobody can pay to have a story changed or removed.
- We don't currently show ads on uk.seasonedexpat.com.
- We don't use affiliate links. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labeled as sponsored.
